The Tower of London - Haze Effects

The Tower of London - Haze Effects

Our system is based on the Concept Smoke Phantom hazer, a precisely engineered machine that uses pressurized gas to control the production of the haze, creating a very fine evenly sized mist droplet . The ultrafine size of these droplets generates a more persistent haze with a quarter of the fluid use of a conventional haze or fog machine for the same density of mist.

Our haze system has also being rigorously tested for its settling rate, its deposition and for its safety with naked flames.

The results of these tests has enabled it to be used in sensitive heritage sites. It is currently the only haze system that has been approved for use at The Victoria and Albert Museum (The Pink Floyd Exhibition – Their Mortal Remains 2017) and the Tower of London.

In the Tower of London 10 machines generated a gentle curtain of haze across a 700m fontage using ducts hidden beneath turf. This created a beautiful enhancement to the lighting and flame effects throughout the moat, without creating an unsightly installation.

The whole system ran with individual DMX control on the level of haze produced by each machine. This gave us the ability to control the haze throughout the entire moat from a single lighting desk and to create an even distribution of haze in a wide variety of weather conditions. The system was run for 4 hours each night over 9 nights.

The flexibility of our duct and fan system enables us to produce haze curtains in challenging locations such as the leading lip of a dome stage or across a tract of open landscape

a clients view:

“Without you, we would not have made fire work in the moat, either technically or so beautifully. You picked up the idea and made it happen, working tirelessly to resolve all the questions and overcome the obstacles.”
